{"id":57271,"date":"2026-06-08T09:44:54","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T06:44:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sttk.fi\/?p=57271"},"modified":"2026-06-08T09:44:56","modified_gmt":"2026-06-08T06:44:56","slug":"just-three-countries-meet-pay-transparency-deadline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sttk.fi\/en\/2026\/06\/08\/just-three-countries-meet-pay-transparency-deadline\/","title":{"rendered":"Just three countries meet pay transparency deadline"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"lead-paragraph\">Women workers need a ban on the pay secrecy clauses which have allowed unequal pay to persist almost 50 years after the EU enshrined equal pay in law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lead-paragraph\">Member states are dragging their feet: nearly half of them have still not even published a draft national law, and about a quarter have drafts but aren\u2019t on track to complete the process until next year. Research by the European Trade Union Confederation found:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td>Completed transposition<\/td><td>Slovakia, Italy, Lithuania<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Delayed, partial transposition<\/td><td>Poland, Czechia, Malta, Belgium<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Delayed to 2027 \/ draft legislation exists<\/td><td>Netherlands, France, Denmark, Finland, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>No draft published and no timeline<\/td><td>Ireland, Germany, Spain, Austria, Croatia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Luxembourg, Portugal, Slovenia<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Opposed to transposition<\/td><td>Sweden<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The delays have been caused by intense lobbying by employer organisations against the law, which they have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.etuc.org\/en\/pressrelease\/bosses-claim-pay-transparency-regulatory-burden\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.etuc.org\/en\/pressrelease\/bosses-claim-pay-transparency-regulatory-burden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">called<\/a> a \u2018regulatory burden\u2019, in order to water down key women rights .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So far, the European Commission has consistently rejected employers calls, sending a clear signal to capitals to press ahead to deliver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ETUC General Secretary Esther Lynch said:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe failure to meet Sunday\u2019s deadline is a betrayal of working women, it represents a shameful failure of political leadership in the face of aggressive corporate lobbying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Commission has stood firm and rejected the calls from employers to weaken the Directive and they need to hold Governments to their responsibilities to transpose the Directive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Pay secrecy hands all the power to the employer and leaves women and their trade unions without the basic information they need to stand up for themselves&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ETUC Deputy General Secretary Isabelle Sch\u00f6mann:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe ETUC is on the offensive for a swift and ambitious transposition. Women workers have waited too long already. Women\u2019s exploitation at work must stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWomen have already waited much too long for Europe\u2019s commitment to equal pay to be made a reality! Women workers need concrete commitment now. Why?
